Whether admired or reviled, the Canada Goose is undeniably iconic, symbolizing the diverse and complex relationship Canadians have with our natural surroundings. Their graceful silhouettes and distinctive honks are recognized, if not loved, by all.
“Homecoming Skies” is a kinetic sculpture that captures these resilient ambassadors of Canada in noble fight. The proposal is inspired by the Sling Swing”, where the installation is incomplete without its users interaction and “Conrad”, which sparked controversy about whether a raccoon deserved such a viral memorialization.
The wings of each goose respond to a gentle pull from below – a dynamic display that reacts to the visitors’ touch. Sitting at its core, the lifeguard chair is transformed into a
refective skybox that supports, multiplies, and mirrors the motions of the fock mid-fight. Standing immediately beneath the iconic v-shaped formation, visitors gain a novel perspective of a familiar sight.
